  2. OMG Miriam. I am sooooooooo glad I found your blog (I was looking for recordings of The Ramones in Cleveland - particularly the Agora show from 1979. That night was the first time I met them, over at Swingo's after the show. I saw them and hung out with them every tour since until the first 'retirement' tour). You have completely catapulted me back in time.

I also worked in Baruth's phone room selling those very same circus tickets. Apparently I was pretty good at it because I regularly got Bators' 'taps' and kept converting them into sales. That was also when I lost my soul to rock and roll, as it were lol. '79 was also the first time I met the Dead Boys, and we remained friends through a few reunion tours and a six-show run at The Whisky with the Rubber City Rebels opening. What fun - travel almost 3000 miles across the country to see a show I might have seen in Cleveland had I been aware of them before either of them left Cleveland and Akron.

I was absolutely devastated when Stiv died and I still miss him to this day. I did a couple of interviews with him over the years, and you're right. He had a wicked sense of humour. One of the last times I saw him was after a Lords show at the Agora. I was doing my cable television show, VidMag-TV at the time, and we did a big interview at the hotel with Danny Reed. You can see it at my YouTube channel at youtube.com/vidmag. I posted the entire interview and it was incredible and very funny.

When I go the news that he had died, I immediately set about putting together a benefit for his parents, which was quite successful. Jane Scott covered it (she died recently, in case you didn't know), I arranged for a Mayor's proclamation for Stiv's contributions to the local music scene, Jeff Dahl came, MTV had a blurb about it before the show, I got tributes from a bunch of people and band members that either worked with him or knew him, Iggy and John Waters both sent video tributes (which are also on my YouTube Channel - Iggy did his from Paris), I came close to arranging a Stooges reunion for the show (but Iggy was already committed to an event in LA) but Dark Carnival DID play - with Niagara and the Ashtons (and a short set with Cheetah guesting - their live album was recorded there) and overall it was an emotional and fantastic evening.

I don't really read a lot of stuff online, but I had to read yours. I've only just finished Chapter 1 so far. Can't wait to read the rest!! I kinda knew Nikki too before she went out west.

I'd love to make connections with you on Facebook.

    1. I remember reading ROCK SCENE magazine as a rock-obsessed teen in northeast Florida. The mag had a "New Bands" section where striving amateur bands could mail in photos of themselves with brief self-descriptions and have their 15 seconds of fame. I first saw the Ramones in this "New Bands" section, and they included the line there about coming from Forest Hills, where people became either "musicians, degenerates, or dentists."

God, it's so hard to think that was nearly 40 years ago!

    2. Stick with lessons and it does not matter if famous people
got by without doing lessons. A lot of famous people grew
up in a family full of musicians so it's different. If your
family is full of musicians then there is no need for lessons
because you learn directly from your family who already has
      the knowledge.
